Message from the Club's President:
Ngun Lam Volleyball.
I don’t have the best jersey on the circuit.
It’s a cheap 100% cotton Gildan t-shirt with only a one colour silk screen.
Nope, by no means is this jersey fancy, but I’m humbled when I wear it, and more so today than any other day.
For today you see, I found out that Thomas Lau, the founder of Ngun Lam Volleyball, passed away as he was surrounded by loved ones.
“Ming Sok” as we affectionately called him provided a platform for immigrants and delinquent kids to enrich their lives through the sport of 9-man volleyball.
He is a man that will be remembered for being a passionate and generous leader. He always placed friendship above winning.
He had a vision that 9-man volleyball should be accessible to everyone regardless of financial means.
So today, as I run the NLV organization, this raggedy t-shirt that I’m wearing is a symbol of keeping the cost of playing 9-man volleyball affordable.
It is a reminder that 9-man volleyball above all is about the friendships that we make and the kids that we have the honour of positively impacting.
A kind gentleman gave a delinquent kid a t-shirt some 25 years ago, and my life changed for the better.
And now we are all here to pay it forward and to carry on a legacy.
From the past, present and future, thank you Ming Sok.
NLV Remembers.
